A FreightValidate Alternative That Shows You the Safety Record
FreightValidate is an identity-verification and vetting system for carriers, brokers, shippers, load boards, and factoring companies, built around catching fraud and double-brokering. CarrierClear overlaps with it but starts from a different question. FreightValidate asks whether an entity passes its validation criteria. CarrierClear shows you the federal safety and compliance record behind the company and explains every reason it flags something. This page lays out where each one is genuinely stronger, so you can pick on the facts rather than on marketing.
Check a carrier now
Check a carrier by MC or DOT number right now and see the federal record for yourself — free, no account, no demo call.
Just the number works — with or without the MC/DOT prefix, and spaces are fine. Tip: prefix an MC number with “MC” (e.g. MC123456) so it isn't read as a DOT number.
What FreightValidate does well
FreightValidate's core strength is identity. It verifies that the entity you're dealing with is who it claims to be, covering carriers, brokers, and freight forwarders across the United States and Canada, and it's built specifically to surface double-brokering and fraud risk. Its validation criteria are strict and clearly stated: active operating authority in effect for more than 30 days and not pending cancellation, a verified principal place of business rather than a post-office box, and no fraud or double-brokering reports filed against the entity by other companies.
That last piece matters. A network where participants report bad actors captures things no government database records, because it reflects what companies experienced rather than what a regulator wrote down. FreightValidate also works in both directions — carriers use it to vet brokers, not just the reverse — and it integrates with other platforms in the space. If your problem is confirming an entity is real and unreported, that is what the product is built for.
Where CarrierClear is different
FreightValidate is explicit about a boundary worth knowing: it is not a substitute for full carrier evaluation, and it does not assess safety compliance, inspection history, driver fitness, or mechanical condition. That is not a criticism — it's their stated scope, and it's honest of them to say it. But it means a carrier can be validated as a legitimate, unreported entity and still be one you shouldn't book.
That gap is CarrierClear's whole subject. We read the public FMCSA record — operating authority, insurance on file, safety rating, and out-of-service status — and turn it into a rating that shows its work. When we flag a carrier, you see the specific reason: the out-of-service rate against the national average, insurance that isn't on file, authority granted too recently to have a track record.
- Identity vs. condition. FreightValidate answers "is this entity real and unreported?" CarrierClear answers "what does this carrier's federal safety and compliance record actually say?" Most brokers who get burned needed both.
- Free check, no account. Run a carrier by MC or DOT number on our homepage with no signup, no demo request, and no sales call. You see authority, insurance, safety rating, and out-of-service status before you decide whether the product is worth anything to you.
- Reasons, not a verdict. A pass/fail badge is easy to act on and hard to defend. Our rating lists the underlying factors, so if a decision is ever questioned you can point to what you saw and when.
- Monitoring between loads. The carrier you approved in March isn't the carrier you're booking in September. Save a carrier and we re-check the federal record daily, then alert you when authority, insurance, or out-of-service status changes.
Which one fits your operation
If your primary exposure is double-brokering and identity fraud, and you want a network where participants flag bad actors to each other, FreightValidate is aimed squarely at that. If your exposure is booking a carrier whose safety record or insurance status you never actually read, and you want a dated record of what you checked, that's the job CarrierClear does.
They are not mutually exclusive, and plenty of shops run more than one tool. The reason to try ours first is simply that it costs nothing to find out — you can check a carrier in the next thirty seconds without talking to anyone.
What CarrierClear costs
The free check is genuinely free: authority, insurance on file, safety rating, out-of-service status, and a dated PDF record, without an account. Paid plans start at $49/month for Solo, which adds the full risk dossier — sanctions screening, phone and address fraud signals, and the reasoned risk grade — plus monitoring on up to 50 saved carriers. Team is $99/month with more seats and shared audit records; Pro is $199/month with unlimited monitoring.
Common questions
- Is CarrierClear a direct replacement for FreightValidate?
- Not exactly, and it would be misleading to say so. FreightValidate verifies entity identity and surfaces fraud and double-brokering reports from its network. CarrierClear reads the public FMCSA safety and compliance record and explains its risk reasoning. If you rely on participant-reported fraud data specifically, we don't replicate that. If you need the safety and insurance picture that identity verification explicitly doesn't cover, that's what we do.
- Can I try CarrierClear without a sales call?
- Yes. Enter an MC or DOT number on the homepage and you'll get a result immediately — no account, no demo, no card. The free tier allows a set number of checks per day, and creating a free account raises that.
- Does CarrierClear check for double-brokering?
- We surface the federal signals associated with it — recently granted authority, authority that's been revoked or reinstated, mismatches between the company you were given and the company on the record, and mail-drop or residential operating addresses on paid dossiers. We do not operate a member-reported fraud network, which is a real difference worth knowing before you choose.
- Where does your data come from?
- Operating authority, insurance filings, safety ratings, and inspection and out-of-service history come from FMCSA's public records. Sanctions screening runs against the U.S. Treasury OFAC SDN list, refreshed daily. Phone and address fraud signals on paid dossiers come from third-party verification services.
- Do you cover Canadian carriers?
- No. CarrierClear is built on U.S. FMCSA records and covers U.S. motor carriers. FreightValidate covers both the U.S. and Canada, so if cross-border coverage is a requirement, that's a genuine advantage on their side.
